Danks tries to end skid as White Sox visit Tribe
Baseball Betting Lines
05/24/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Chicago White Sox starter John Danks has the second-best
earned run average in the American League, but hasn't won in almost a month.
He will try to stop a personal three-game losing streak tonight, when his team
plays the first of three straight road meetings against the Cleveland Indians.
Danks currently owns a 2.26 ERA in eight starts this season and a 3-3 record
to show for it. He started the 2010 campaign 3-0 in four starts and is 0-3
with a 3.04 ERA in four outings since. Danks dropped his third straight start
last Wednesday in a 3-2 setback versus the Angels, as he gave up three runs --
two earned -- on three hits over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out eight batters.
The left-hander has had trouble in the past against the Indians, having gone
2-5 with a 4.89 earned run average in 10 career starts. However, in Danks'
most recent matchup with the Tribe on September 28 of last season, he went the
distance in a 6-1 victory at Progressive Field, the site of tonight's
showdown. Danks permitted a run and three hits and fanned seven batters that
day.
Chicago can use a decent effort from one of its starters after it failed in
its bid for a three-game interleague sweep of the Florida Marlins with
Sunday's 13-0 debacle. Freddy Garcia was rocked for seven runs and seven hits,
including three home runs, in only 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. Randy
Williams did no better in relief, allowing five runs -- four earned -- and
eight hits over 2 1/3 frames. Williams surrendered two home runs.
"We played real nice the first two games and pitched really great and shut
them down," White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski said. "They jumped on us early
(Sunday)."
Alex Rios had a team-best two hits and Pierzynski went 0-for-4 for the White
Sox, who have lost three of five games and are 1 1/2 games ahead of basement-
dwelling Cleveland for third in the AL Central standings. Chicago will visit
Tampa Bay for four games after this series in the Forest City.
Cleveland avoided being swept in a third consecutive series by salvaging the
finale of a three-game interleague set against the Cincinnati Reds with a 4-3
victory on Sunday . After losing a pair of matchups with both Tampa Bay and
Kansas City, the Indians dropped the first two meetings versus the Reds.
Jhonny Peralta put the Tribe ahead for good yesterday with an RBI single in
the sixth inning, while Travis Hafner, Russell Branyan and Shelley Duncan
knocked in a run apiece for Cleveland, which got three hits from Shin-Soo
Choo to back starter David Huff.
"A huge hit by Jhonny," Huff said on the team's site.
Hafner is hitting .366 during an 11-game hitting streak in which he owns 15
hits.
Huff improved to 2-6 and yielded three runs and six hits in six innings. Chris
Perez, Tony Sipp and Kerry Wood went the rest of the way to preserve the
victory, with Wood earning his first save of the season.
The Indians are 1-4 on an eight-game homestand and 7-12 as the host this
season.
Indians starter Justin Masterson is still searching for his first win of the
season and will take the ball Monday against the White Sox. He is 0-4 with a
5.65 earned run average in eight starts and previously pitched in an 8-4
setback versus Kansas City on Wednesday, posting a no-decision after holding
the Royals to two runs on five hits and four walks through five innings.
Masterson, a right-hander out of San Diego State, faced Chicago in a 5-3
Indians' victory in the Windy City on April 8 and did not factor in the
outcome after hurling five innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts. He is
0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in six career meetings (3 starts) with the Pale Hose.
Cleveland has already won five of six encounters with Chicago this season and
swept a three-game series between the teams at Progressive Field from April
16-18.

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game
How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Green was going into a feet-first hook slide when he was knocked unconscious by a thunderous, head-snapping hit from Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.
The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).
Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.
The Chiefs lost 9-6 to Denver last week as an 11-point underdog. The combined score was well UNDER the posted over/under total (38).
Larry Johnson rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries. Damon Huard completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.
NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.
Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.
Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
