Austin, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Defensive end Russell Carter and safety Ben
Wells announced Tuesday that they will be leaving the Texas Longhorns football
squad in search of more playing time.
Carter, a redshirt sophomore in 2009, played in nine games and posted five
tackles for the Longhorns, who lost to Alabama in the national championship
game.
"I want to thank (head coach Mack) Brown and the staff for my experience at
Texas," Carter said. "I've enjoyed a lot of great times with my teammates and
wish them continued success. I want to play now and have decided to transfer
and continue to pursue my academic and football goals at another school."
Wells played in 12 games in 2008 and 2009, mostly on special teams. Through
his Longhorn career, Wells, also a redshirt sophomore last season, recorded 12
tackles, a sack, an interception and a blocked punt for a touchdown in his
Texas career.
"I will continue to support the Longhorn nation and all of my coaches and
teammates in their quest for another championship," Wells said. "I just really
want a chance to play more and have a better opportunity to do that if I
complete my last two seasons elsewhere."
