STORRS, Conn. (AP) -Connecticut tailback D.J. Shoemate still wears his 2009 Rose Bowl championship ring.

The junior, who transferred to UConn from Southern California in July, says he's not trying to show off to any of his new teammates. Instead, he wears the ring as a reminder of what it takes to become a champion.

He believes UConn has what it takes, and hopes to replace the ring in February with one from another BCS bowl game.

The team's depth chart, released Tuesday, has Shoemate ba

Lloyd had 91 tackles last season, and the image of him flying through the air and knocking the helmet off Notre Dame running back Armando Allen Jr. on the goal line has come to symbolize the most notable win in the history of UConn football.

His teammates say Lloyd's return has given them an emotional lift heading into Saturday's season opener with Michigan.

It also reunites perhaps the best linebacker trio in the Big East. Lloyd and outside linebackers Scott Lutrus and

"We are all obviously disappointed for Caroline, but we know that she will work very hard to be ready for next season," said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. This is the third time Doty has suffered the same injury, also having her freshman campaign cut short with a tear in the same knee. With above-average speed and playmaking ability, the sky is the limit for this Buckeye, as he should be a driving force in Ohio State's run toward a Big Ten title and perhaps much more. At wideout, the right to start opposite Lee Evans will be fought among a nondescript group including Roscoe Parrish, Steve Johnson, James Hardy, and fourth-round pick Marcus Easley (UConn). There's plenty of question marks up front too, where castoffs Jamon Meredith (ex-Packers) and Cornell Green (ex-Raiders) could start at tackle unless Demetrius Bell (knee) recovers in time to man the left side. Having just completed his seventh year as director of athletics at UConn, Hathaway will be just the fourth individual from the Big East Conference to serve on the Division I Men's Basketball Committee. The previous were commissioners Dave Gavitt and Mike Tranghese and former Syracuse AD Jake Crouthamel. It's a big job

Normally, you would expect the Magic to take a European player and leave him overseas at 29 but a poor performance against Boston in the postseason means they will take a talent. UConn forward Stanley Robinson can run the floor and finish, and would inject some much-needed athleticism to Orlando. Carter, meanwhile, is also no longer the feared scorer he was in Toronto so the Magic need to start developing a plan for his eventual replacement. UConn's Stanley Robinson, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound small forward has a nasty streak and can run the floor and finish, although he lacks a top-tier jumper Gani Lawal, the Georgia Tech power forward, could also help improve the team's toughness.
